The CSUSM STEM Maker Academy: NASA Rover camp transforms young participants into NASA engineers. Campers engage in hands-on activities where they design, build, and test rover wheels, and then program mini rovers to navigate challenging sandy slopes. This immersive experience allows students to experiment with terrain adaptation, coding and wiring Arduinos, and mechanical design, all in preparation for a final mission. The program emphasizes interactive, hands-on learning with real-world design challenges, fostering skills in circuitry, engineering, and coding. Participants gain exposure to STEM on a college campus, utilizing CSUSM's maker spaces and learning environments, and are guided by passionate undergraduate STEM majors who serve as mentors.
Camp sessions run from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM daily, with an optional add-on afternoon session from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM where campers eat lunch and explore campus destinations like The Makery and Ethnobotany Garden.
